Teaching Standards

Life experiences aide us in our understanding of technology. It is the application of technology to our lives that we can understand more fully the impact that technology has in our lives. In class we started to present the 20 Standards that we need to teach our students as part of the curriculum. The first one is the scope and basics of technology. Amanda did well to explain how basically everything in our lives involves technology. Before, I never thought about certain things as technologies but as the definition explains, it truly is all around us--the advances in the world. We go through life preforming certain tasks and not think about the process that we are going through in order to do them. Jess and Scott were able to explain the process that we go through with real life situations--bridge building and making chocolate chip cookies. Through those examples I better understood Each core concept of technology that we overlook everyday.

With all of these presentations, I was able to think more about what is going on around me, to pay attention to the influence of technology. It's true what Rachel said about technology, that everyone has their own personal opinion on technology. I believe we all need to embrace it because it is going to happen anyway. If we don't use it for the good, and emphasize the good, others will continue to make things worse and use technology for the bad. I love technology, but I still have so much to learn. Its power is increasing rapidly.
